Sketches and Essays

Hazlitt, William
Date finished: 2001-01-30

A collection of essays on various topics. Hazlitt seems like a poor imitation of Francis Bacon, coming centuries later but aiming for a similarly aphoristic style. Hazlitt never achieves Bacon's precision or compactness, though, and the essays are never very interesting or memorable, but instead are dull and plodding.
