A jumbled rag-bag of a book, but it's an interesting rag-bag. The author looks at Silicon Valley from an archaeologist's perspective, examining the relationship between the Valley's physical environment and the technological development that takes place there. An image she often returns to is what a future archeologist would notice if the Valley was to be buried under ash like Pompeii. Things they'd notice would be the large houses for one or two occupants, the ostentatious displays of wealth, traces of the Valley's previous incarnation filled with orchards, and past generations of technology. An odd but worthwhile book.
