A legendary book on Gödel's Theorem and the theory of minds, but it's one I've never managed to read fully before. I didn't manage it this time, either, skipping almost all of Chapter XVI's material on biochemistry and much of the philosophical material in the last chapter, but now that should be enough to pacify my guilt at never having read it. I really liked the discussion of G and how the theorem is slowly led up to, and wished that this had been the whole of the book; the rest of the material often seemed to dilute the main thrust of the book's argument. (Though of course I enjoyed the dialogues, which provided a suitably light counterbalance to the book's exposition of formal systems.)
