The author maintains a web site that explodes various common myths about astronomical objects, such as the seasons being due to the ellipticity of the Earth's orbit, the moon landings being a hoax, that sort of thing. This book covers the same topics, but I prefer the web site; for some reason the writing in the book feels flat and dull, and occasionally dismisses kooky claims without providing any convincing argument against them. (The chapter on creationism was where I noticed this latter fault.) The book might be worth reading if all of these myths are new to you, though some of the explanations might not leave you with any more understanding; otherwise, let me suggest just browsing on ` www.badastronomy.com <http://www.badastronomy.com>`_ for a while.
