Another collection of pieces from late in Martin Gardner's career. This one pulls together historical pieces from Free Inquiry, book reviews from the Los Angeles Times Book Review and NYRB, and introductions Gardner wrote to books by H.G. Wells and L. Frank Baum. Because the collection is largely driven by chronology, there's no strong theme and some essays are dull -- the discussion of Mary Baker Eddy and the 1910s-1920s children's magazine "John Martin's Book" take the reader down historical byways that Gardner finds fascinating but I found only mildly interesting.
