Bair was in charge of the US FDIC from 2006 to 2011, which includes the storm of the 2008 financial crisis. The FDIC is responsible for regulating banks and insuring bank depositors up to an amount of $250,000 for so. This book is Bair's account of her years in office, and of the turbulent internal debates between the regulators.
Bair is a long-time Republican, but she's one of the increasingly rare smart Republicans. She managed the FDIC carefully and conservatively, but was also willing to let private parties take losses instead of just soaking the taxpayers. Some takeaways from her book:
