Short and readable discussion of feline behaviour. Why do cats sometimes show their belly? The cat is friendly but is being lazy and doesn't want to actively greet you. What does it mean when a cat wags its tail? It's conflicted between two impulses, such as the urge to go out versus annoyance as the rain. We just got a three-month-old kitten that we've named Sirius, so I was interested in the chapters on kitten development; cats become self-sufficient when they're just six months old. Possibly this book has become a bit dated, and some explanations sound improbable -- one chapter suggests cats hiss because it sounds like the hiss of a snake -- but I found it useful in thinking about how to introduce the new kitten to our others cats and to the dog.
